Hotel Miramalfi is a 5-star boutique hotel on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, set on the cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is a proud member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and was awarded a MICHELIN Key in 2025.
The Mansi family has owned and operated the property for 70 years. In 1956, Francesco Mansi returned to Amalfi, having lived in Mexico, and opened the hotel realising a long-held vision. The property was later passed on to Mario and Emma, his son and daughter-in-law. Today, the third generation – Francesco Mansi and his wife, Ferida Fava – lead the hotel, shaping it into a contemporary, design-focused property while at the same time preserving its original character. The fourth generation is already part of the story too, with Alessandro working as Director of Sales. The family’s legacy remains present throughout, with Mario’s Lounge Bar and the restaurant, Donna Emma named in their honour.
The hotel operates seasonally, welcoming guests from the beginning of April through to the beginning of November.
On arrival, we were greeted by members of staff who took our luggage and escorted us to the lobby. Our welcome was warm and genuine from the very first moment. The entrance sits one floor above the lobby, which is accessible by steps or a lift. The view that greets you at that first level is simply stunning.
Commencing in 2022, the property has undergone a complete renovation, with upgrades to all the guestrooms and suites, public areas, restaurants and the beach club facilities.
The lobby is bright and elegant, with a contemporary Mediterranean feel. A black-and-white checkered floor, soft arches and greenery give it character and a calm sense of style.
The check-in process was seamless. We were invited to enjoy a fresh lemonade on the sun-filled terrace, an enticing space with stunning views overlooking Amalfi town.
The hotel has 36 rooms and suites across various categories, each individually styled with contemporary Mediterranean touches, all of which have sea-facing balconies or terraces. This is not a hotel where you have to request a good view; it is simply part of the experience for every guest.
We stayed in a Junior Suite, which was spacious, filled with natural light and beautifully designed. It featured a freestanding bathtub positioned within the bedroom. Black-and-white prints of Italian icon, Sophia Loren, added a subtle, cinematic glamour to the décor.
The king-sized bed was exceptionally comfortable, dressed in buttery-soft Rivolta Carmignani 1867 linen, one of Italy’s most respected names in luxury textiles. Subtle Miramalfi piping on the sheets is a small, but telling, detail and reflects the level of thought invested throughout the room.
Our large private terrace was the undisputed centrepiece. It was furnished with sun loungers, a table and chairs. Stepping out for the first time, the sheer scale of what you are looking at takes a moment to absorb. The Tyrrhenian Sea stretches out to the horizon, the light bouncing off the water in a way that shifts entirely depending on the time of day.
The bathroom was also spacious, with full-length double doors opening directly onto the balcony, allowing the view to be enjoyed even from the shower. Double sinks are complemented by a full range of amenities, including a dental kit, shaving kit, comb and mouthwash. Toiletries are by Ortigia, the Sicilian fragrance house, and towels, again by Rivolta Carmignani, are thick and plush. Miramalfi-branded bathrobes and slippers are also provided.
In-room amenities are thoughtfully curated. A Smeg coffee machine and kettle are paired with handmade cups from local ceramics house Elios Positano. A high-end Steamery clothes steamer, beach bag and flip-flops are also provided. Additional features include a minibar, Dyson hairdryer, safe, flat-screen TV, and air conditioning. A pillow menu is available on request.
A thoughtful welcome gift awaited us on arrival: a bottle of champagne and a lemon cake with strawberries, along with a handwritten note from the team.
Turndown service was excellent, with practical touches throughout. A champagne stopper was placed in the open bottle, an appreciated and surprisingly rare detail. Slippers were set on a memory foam mat beside the bed. Towels and water were replenished, and a small nightly gift was left. Even our charging cables were neatly secured with Miramalfi-branded ties.
Dining at Hotel Miramalfi is shaped by the coastline, with menus, settings and views all drawing on the Amalfi setting.
Breakfast is served daily from 7.30AM to 10.30AM in Donna Emma, the hotel’s fine-dining restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and unhurried from the moment you sit down, with a pianist playing throughout.
A bread basket and hand towels are presented on arrival, a gracious touch before you’ve even opened the menu. Napkins, placemats and table linen are by Rivolta Carmignani, the same brand used for the bed linen and towels in the rooms. This underlines the hotel’s attention to detail and consistency.
Both à la carte and buffet options are available. Eggs are cooked to order, along with dishes such as smoked fish, pancakes, waffles, porridge, cereals and detox juices. The buffet features a selection of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cold cuts and cheeses, as well as a wide variety of cakes and pastries. The food was exceptionally fresh and always delicious.
Dinner at Donna Emma is a standout experience. The restaurant opens nightly from 7.30PM to 10.30PM, with tables set on an intimate terrace overlooking the sea. A pianist plays throughout the evening, while the sommelier moves between tables with a champagne trolley. The Mirabella Franciacorta Brut Rosé and the Marisa Cuomo Costa d’Amalfi Fiorduva white wine were both recommended by the sommelier, and both were excellent.
Guests can choose between à la carte dining or two tasting menus, priced at €170 for five courses and €190 for six courses per person, with wine pairings available for an additional €120. A five-course vegetarian tasting menu is also available, priced at €140 per person.
We opted for the à la carte menu. Our meal began with an amuse-bouche of amberjack, asparagus and caviar, finished with a light strawberry syrup. Homemade bread and breadsticks are served with citrus-infused olive oil from Salerno and salted butter with lemon zest. Small torch lights are provided at the table for reading the menu.
For my main course, I chose the linguine with clams, quite possibly the best I have had. For dessert, I had the quattro of desserts: a sfogliatella with ricotta mousse and cherry, lemon sponge cake, a mini chocolate and ricotta mousse topped with raisins, and a refreshing lemon sorbet. Petit fours completed the meal, with an Earl Grey tea mousse with hazelnuts and chocolate, and a dark chocolate and orange bite to finish. The food, service and setting combined to make for an excellent evening.
Azur Lounge Bar is the hotel’s newest dining addition: a contemporary sea-view terrace serving Mediterranean dishes, signature cocktails and champagne. It is a beautiful spot for an aperitivo, or for a relaxed lunch or dinner. We dined there on one of the evenings and the pizza was excellent. Daily complimentary mixology classes are also offered.
Mario’s Lounge Bar is a stylish bar and terrace, ideal for an early evening drink or a nightcap.
The Beach Club is the beating heart of Miramalfi’s daytime identity. Sun loungers and umbrellas are arranged across the terraces, with plush towels provided and waiter service available throughout.
The saltwater swimming pool is carved into the rocks just above sea level, with blue-and-white striped parasols lining the deck and matching Petites Pommes inflatable rings in the water. Below, the solarium stretches across several levels, giving guests a strong sense of privacy. A ladder provides direct access to the sea.
Water is served with lemon slices and ice. The water cartons feature a hand-drawn illustration of the pool itself, a lovely detail. Lens wipes are also provided. The poolside bar offers cocktails, soft drinks and light bites.
I asked for a phone charger and, to my surprise, a power bank was promptly produced, which left me wondering: is there anything they haven’t thought of?
The Beach Club is open to external guests, subject to hotel occupancy and availability on the day. It is open daily from 8AM to 6.30PM.
Miramalfi offers a sea-view gym equipped with the latest Technogym equipment. Complimentary yoga classes are held Monday to Friday on an outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. The hotel also offers massage and rejuvenating treatments for guests who wish to indulge.
The concierge was one of the standout presences throughout our stay: knowledgeable, personable and genuinely invested in ensuring our time was well spent. Nothing felt too much trouble. Recommendations were offered without being pushed, arrangements were made without fuss, and every small request was handled with warmth.
Beyond the day-to-day, the concierge is on hand to arrange private transfers, dinner reservations, bespoke tours and exclusive experiences. Options range from lemon tours, cooking classes, visits to Herculaneum and Pompeii, as well as trips to Ravello and Paestum.
The hotel has also introduced an exclusive boat experience, allowing guests to explore the Amalfi Coast aboard its private Aprea Mare 35, an elegant 11-metre Italian Gozzo which is available for private charter.
Miramalfi sits roughly 800 metres from the centre of Amalfi town, approximately 10 minutes’ walk away. The hotel operates an on-request complimentary shuttle service to and from Amalfi, running from 7.30AM until 11.30PM every day. They also provide free private parking for hotel guests, a rare and welcome convenience on this stretch of coast.
The hotel is approximately a 1 hour 30 minute drive from Naples Airport, and the concierge can assist with arranging transfers.
Miramalfi is the kind of hotel that is easy to fall for and hard to leave. It balances the intimate soul of a family home with the quiet ambition of a world-class property – all framed by what are, arguably, the finest views on the coast.
The service throughout was warm, intuitive and genuine. All of the staff were attentive without being intrusive, and eager to ensure every aspect of the stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. This is a hotel run by people who genuinely love what they do, and that feeling permeates every corner of the property. It is, in the best sense, the hospitality of a place that has been doing this since 1956 and has understood what matters.
I often look for the little details when I stay somewhere – they are what separate a good hotel from one you really remember. At Miramalfi, the attention to detail is exceptional. They are small things, but they add up to something that stays with you long after you have left.
If you’re planning a trip to the Amalfi Coast, this is definitely one to have on your list – it really is a special place. We will absolutely be returning.
