Jumeirah Group has revealed plans for a comprehensive restoration of the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, marking the first major enhancement of the landmark since its opening in 1999. The project, which will span approximately 18 months, aims to preserve and elevate the legacy of Dubai’s most recognisable hotel, ensuring its continued status as a global symbol of luxury hospitality.

The restoration will be overseen by Tristan Auer, the acclaimed Paris-based interior architect known for his sensitive approach to heritage projects, including Hôtel de Crillon and Les Bains Douches. Auer’s work will balance respect for the property’s original opulence with a refreshed, contemporary sensibility, ensuring that the hotel’s distinctive interiors – renowned for their rich materials and bold design – remain timeless.

Thomas B. Meier, CEO of Jumeirah Group, described the programme as “a new chapter in the story of Jumeirah Burj Al Arab,” reaffirming the hotel’s position as the flagship of Jumeirah’s limited-edition collection of landmark properties.

Since its debut, the Burj Al Arab has defined modern Arabian luxury, introducing innovations such as 24-hour butler service and the world’s most lavish suite experiences. With 198 suites adorned with gold leaf, marble, and Swarovski crystals, the sail-shaped architectural icon continues to rank among the world’s most photographed hotels and recently earned Forbes Travel Guide’s Five-Star Rating and Travel + Leisure’s Number One City Hotel in the Middle East and North Africa (2023).

The restoration reinforces the Burj Al Arab’s enduring legacy as a masterpiece of design, craftsmanship, and cultural prestige, securing its place for generations to come.
