    Hotel Review: Bellevue Syrene, Sorrento

    B

ellevue Syrene is a luxury 5-star hotel in the heart of Sorrento, with stunning views over the Bay of Naples. This Relais & Châteaux member flawlessly combines timeless Italian elegance with contemporary comforts. The hotel's commitment to excellence has been recognised with multiple accolades, including the prestigious two Michelin Keys.

The hotel is built on the foundations of a 2nd-century BC Roman villa, with ancient features like tufa cisterns and nymphaea still visible today. Originally a noble residence, the property has welcomed royalty and artists since 1820.

Today, its storied history is complemented by a curated collection of works by prominent local artists, which connects its ancient origins with modern art. This art is a defining feature of the hotel and can be found everywhere you look!

From the very beginning, the service felt sincerely personal. It was clear that this wasn’t just a place to stay – it was a place to be truly welcomed.

We were greeted at the entrance and escorted down to the lounge, where we were given a brief tour of the hotel on the way. Check-in was quick and efficient, completed while we were seated in the lounge.

The hotel’s General Manager, Claudio Napolitano, took the time to come over and introduce himself – not out of formality, but with genuine warmth. A small gesture that left a lasting impression.

Bellevue Syrene has 50 elegant rooms and suites, each uniquely designed to combine contemporary style with authentic period pieces.

Our Comfort Room was bright and airy, with high vaulted ceilings, white interiors, and pristine tiled floors. The large bed was dressed in signature monogrammed linens, and sheer curtains opened onto a private balcony with stunning sea views overlooking the Bay of Naples.

On arrival, we received a generous welcome gift: a bottle of chilled champagne, along with an assortment of beautifully presented cakes and biscuits. The room was equipped with everything we needed, including a Nespresso machine, a kettle, USB plugs, and a clothes steamer.

The complimentary minibar was well-stocked with Peroni, various fruit juices, water, and soft drinks like Coca-Cola, Fanta, and Sprite.

The bathroom featured an arched shower with classic white tiles. Thoughtful amenities were provided, including high-quality toiletries, soft bathrobes and slippers, and a personal care kit with a shaving kit, dental kit, and body cream.

The hotel’s commitment to sustainability was also notable. Instead of single-use plastic bottles, the toiletries were provided in solid bar format – soap, shampoo, and conditioner – to reduce waste. For guests who prefer standard shampoo and body wash, the staff were happy to provide alternatives.

Turndown service was forgotten on one evening, which was the only flaw in an otherwise excellent experience.

Bellevue Syrene offers a variety of dining and bar options to suit the season. La Pergola is a panoramic terrace ideal for summer meals, while the Mimmo Jodice room serves as an elegant winter dining venue with stunning Gulf views.

Il Costiera Bar, with its focus on local flavours like fresh Sorrento lemons, is the perfect spot for a signature Bellevue Syrene Spritz or other cocktails. The Villa Pompeiana hosts breakfast and private events in the warmer months.

Breakfast is served from 7AM to 10.30AM outdoors on the stunning Villa Pompeiana terrace, overlooking the bay with a live pianist. During winter, breakfast is served in the Mimmo Jodice room, which has the same beautiful view from its floor-to-ceiling windows.

The breakfast buffet is beautifully presented, with a generous selection of pastries, cakes, cereals, fruits, cold meats, cheeses, and breads. An à la carte menu is also available for made-to-order items like egg dishes, crepes, French toast, pancakes, and porridge. The food was both beautifully presented and delicious.

Although the service during breakfast was a bit slow, the relaxed atmosphere encouraged us to linger, which added to the charm.

Guests have access to the Club Lounge daily from 10AM to 8PM. The sunlit lounge features plush velvet seating, glass tables, and a blend of modern and classical decor. A small, but thoughtfully curated selection of pastries, cakes, salads, cold cuts, cheeses, and canapés is offered, along with complimentary Prosecco, wine, beer, and soft drinks. This inclusive access is a welcome and generous perk for all guests.

Bellevue Syrene offers exclusive access to a private beach right on the water, with sunbeds, parasols, and towels provided for guests. You can reach it by a lift or a historic Roman path carved into the cliffs, which I highly recommend for a more scenic and unique experience.

The beach is open from May 1st to September 30th, daily from 9AM to 5.30PM.

The Spa Syrene Wellness Centre is a tranquil space for guests to relax and rejuvenate. It features a traditional hammam and a variety of body and face treatments, including massages. There is also a small gym with cardio machines and weights.

The hotel also has a small but inviting pool area with an elegant bar and loungers, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful sea views.

Another small but appreciated amenity is access to PressReader, which offers a wide selection of international newspapers and magazines.

The hotel’s location is ideal for exploring Sorrento. It’s a short, pleasant walk from the city’s main square, Piazza Tasso, putting guests right at the heart of the action without being disturbed by the noise.

The surrounding area is filled with charming shops, authentic restaurants, and cafes, making it incredibly convenient for guests to explore on foot. This perfect blend of seclusion and accessibility allows you to enjoy the tranquility of the hotel while having easy access to everything Sorrento has to offer.

Bellevue Syrene has a feeling of understated elegance and genuine hospitality. The service was attentive from the moment we arrived, making us feel like every detail was arranged just for us. It feels less like a hotel and more like a private residence, offering a truly personal experience that flawlessly blends rich history with modern luxury.

It’s the perfect setting for a romantic getaway or a peaceful escape.
