One&Only Le Saint Géran is a luxury 5-star resort on the east coast of Mauritius. Nestled at Pointe de Flacq, the property is surrounded by calm lagoon waters and pristine white-sandy beaches.
Le Saint Géran was originally opened in 1975 and underwent a major renovation in 2017. The resort was fully transformed, re-establishing its position as a leading luxury destination in the Indian Ocean. The redevelopment introduced new dining concepts, redesigned pools with cabanas, refreshed public spaces, a state-of-the-art spa, Club One, and a range of modern facilities throughout the property.
Le Saint Géran has received several prestigious accolades. The resort holds a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating and has regularly featured on the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List. It has also been awarded two Michelin Keys.
From the moment you arrive at Le Saint Géran, the experience is designed to impress. The signature drum welcome immediately sets the tone for the stay, as guests are greeted with a scented towel and a glass of champagne.
The check-in was both quick and efficient. We were assigned a dedicated Host, who remained the single point of contact throughout our stay. Communication was handled through a private WhatsApp group, which was both convenient and responsive. Any queries about restaurant bookings, activities, or transport were answered within minutes. The approach felt both modern and personal.
Throughout our stay, the Host’s availability and initiative stood out – checking in regularly but never intrusively. Hosts are available daily from 8.30AM to 11PM. Each morning and evening they update you on the start and end times of their service.
After check-in, on the way to our room, we were given a brief tour of the hotel. The resort sits on a secluded peninsula, covering 60 acres and boasting more than a mile of beachfront. Its grounds extend across 2,000 acres, including over three miles of gardens filled with more than 75 species of flowers and plants. Throughout the resort there are 1,200 palm trees, representing 10 different species.
The resort features 143 accommodations, comprising 108 rooms, 34 suites, and the exclusive Villa One with a private pool.
All guest rooms and suites feature spacious, elegantly designed interiors, balancing modern style with a relaxed island ambiance. Interiors feature natural materials including timber, stone, leather, and linen, complemented by bespoke furnishings and locally crafted lithographs. The design reflects the tropical Mauritian setting, creating an atmosphere of refined, understated elegance.
Our Beachfront Suite was generous, featuring a master bedroom with a king-sized bed and a large lounge and dining area, complete with a private, ocean-facing balcony. The suite felt spacious and airy. The aesthetic was crisp and neutral, with creams and soft neutral tones throughout. Waking up to the sound of waves from the bed was a highlight!
The beautifully designed, spacious bathroom featured a freestanding bath, separate shower, and double sinks surrounded by elegant, veined marble and warm wood floors. The design was both clean and bright and led directly into a dedicated dressing area with a vanity table and wardrobes providing ample storage space. Our suite also included a second bathroom with a shower.
A thoughtful welcome gift awaited us in the room – a bottle of Mauritian rum which was beautifully presented along with fresh fruit and traditional Mauritian sweets.
The Montroi ‘Swaying Palms’ scent, developed exclusively for Le Saint Géran, runs consistently through the property – from the lobby to the bath amenities. This scent identity is one of the resort’s most distinctive details and contributes subtly to its sense of place. The same fragrance is found in the bath oil, salts, and bubble bath, creating a spa-like atmosphere even in the room.
Practical elements were provided throughout the suite: featuring USB and international plug sockets, a digital shower switch, and complimentary soft drinks in the minibar. Guests also receive a generous range of amenities, including two types of bathrobes, slippers, and a selection of resort essentials (flip-flops, hats, a straw beach bag, a yoga mat and reusable branded water bottles).
A Nespresso machine with pods and a kettle with a selection of teas were provided, with milk, thoughtfully, placed in the fridge. The only small oversight was that the cups were too small for tea, and there were no spoons provided.
The minibar was impressively stocked, featuring: soft drinks, juices, full bottles of gin, vodka, whisky, and wine, as well as an assortment of snacks.
Though an iron and ironing board were not provided, our attentive Host quickly arranged for one to be delivered to our room.
Each evening, turndown service added a thoughtful extra touch. Guests might find a mini jar of local honey, rum or a sugar cane, each beautifully presented and serving as an elegant nod to Mauritian craftsmanship and local sourcing.
Le Saint Géran features five restaurants and bars, offering a variety of dining options in relaxed yet elegant settings.
Breakfast is served daily from 7AM to 10AM at La Terrasse. Renowned for its expansive, high-quality buffet, it goes beyond a typical continental spread, offering a wide selection of international and local specialties, including Mauritian, Indian, and Asian dishes.
A highlight is the emphasis on healthy, fresh options, featuring a dedicated section for freshly pressed juices, detox smoothies, yoghurts, along with a vibrant display of tropical fruits. At the open-kitchen stations, chefs prepare dishes to order. The Egg Station offers omelettes, scrambled, or fried eggs. Pancakes, waffles, and crêpes are also freshly made.
For those with a sweet tooth, the indulgent treats corner offers an elaborate bakery display with a tempting selection of French pastries, breads, and cakes.
The buffet is complemented by an à la carte menu.
We were somewhat disappointed by the service at breakfast. On our first morning, the buffet setup wasn’t explained, and the staff didn’t mention that à la carte options were available until we asked. It also took some effort to get a menu. This lack of guidance made the start of breakfast a bit confusing. That said, the food quality was excellent, with everything you could want available.
A small caution: the outdoor setting attracts birds, so food should not be left unattended!
Between meals, L’Artisan, an artisanal bakery, serves coffee, tempting pastries and light bites etc, throughout the day.
For lunch, guests can choose between La Pointe for beachside classics and seafood and Le Badamier for local Mauritian flavours.
Riva Beach Club offers a vibrant atmosphere with a resident DJ setting the tone. They serve southern Italian cuisine beside the pool. The menu highlights Italian coastal flavours, from grilled seafood to fresh antipasti, with dishes that celebrate seasonal ingredients and straightforward, flavoursome cooking. Riva is situated next to the resort’s private villas, with a buggy available for transport.
Dinner is where Le Saint Géran truly distinguishes itself. Guests on half-board enjoy a MUR 5,500 (€104) per adult daily food credit, usable across all the dining venues – I highly recommend this option.
La Terrasse highlights Mauritius’ blend of Creole, French, Italian, and Chinese influences, offering an international menu prepared in an open kitchen. Dinner is served daily from 7PM to 10.30PM.
The bar also features live music and a DJ, which can be loud; if this might bother you, it’s best to request a room away from La Terrasse.
Tapasake, the resort’s overwater Japanese-Nikkei restaurant, offers pan-Asian, tapas-style fusion cuisine. We enjoyed a fantastic meal here. I started with the shrimp tempura, served with spicy mayo and organic greens. For the main, the skewered chicken kushiyaki glazed with teriyaki was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The chocolate fondant with miso caramel provided a well-balanced sweet and savoury finish. Service was attentive but discreet, and the lagoon views at sunset enhanced the experience. Advance reservations are required.
Prime, the resort’s signature grill, offers a contrasting yet equally refined dining experience. Our meal began with a small amuse-bouche of crab tart with curry mayonnaise, followed by homemade artichoke bread, truffle butter, and potato soup. For the main course, we had the 240-day grain-fed Australian tenderloin, perfectly marbled and expertly cooked, served with three-cheese mac and cheese and hand-cut fries with a vadouvan curry emulsion. The desserts are indulgent, particularly the Guanaja 70% chocolate creation, served with hazelnut praline and coffee ice cream.
Service was exceptional, with staff offering helpful recommendations throughout our meal. Prime’s atmosphere is formal yet welcoming, with a smart-elegant dress code requiring closed shoes and long trousers for men. The restaurant is open for dinner on select days from 7PM to 10.30PM, with parents of infants under two invited to dine at 6.30PM. Again, advance reservations are required. Not to be missed!
The resort is bordered by over 2kms of pristine, sugar-white sand beaches and a calm, sheltered lagoon. As a suite guest, we had access to a dedicated beach cabana with two comfortable deck chairs. Each private cabana is numbered with the corresponding suite number, which ensures a reserved spot always awaits you. Towels are provided. Staff circulate frequently with iced water in reusable glasses and treats such as fruit-infused ice lollies – all of these are complimentary.
For all other resort guests, thatched huts along the beach are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each hut comes with two or three sun loungers, thoughtfully spaced for privacy.
There are three swimming pools across the resort, including the family-friendly Palm Grove pool at La Pointe, which features lifeguard supervision, shaded cabanas, and a swim-up bar. For a more exclusive experience, poolside cabanas are available for a MUR 10,000 (€187) minimum spend, fully redeemable against food and beverage.
Other pools include the ocean-view pool beside La Terrasse restaurant, ideal for quiet relaxation, and the adults-only Spa pool, an exclusive retreat for guests enjoying treatments at the Spa.
The Club One facility at Le Saint Géran serves as the resort’s main activity hub, featuring a fully equipped indoor and outdoor fitness centre. Two studios for group exercise classes such as spinning, Zumba, kickboxing, HIIT, and TRX are available, as well as an outdoor training area by MyEquilibria. Guests can also join complimentary yoga and Pilates sessions at the yoga pavilion.
Sporting facilities include floodlit tennis courts, a volleyball court, a putting green, and Mauritius’s first padel courts. A full schedule of classes – from boxing and spinning to HIIT and yoga – runs from early morning through evening, with private lessons available on request.
Club One also includes a juice and snack bar and houses the resort’s dedicated recreational centres for children and teenagers: Kids Only, Tweens Only and One Tribe.
The resort offers dedicated kids’ programmes across different age groups. Kids Only (9AM–10PM) welcomes children aged 3 to 7, with under-threes allowed if accompanied by an adult. Tweens Only (9AM–10PM) is for ages 8 to 12, while One Tribe (10AM–11PM) caters to teens aged 13 to 17. Babysitting services are also available with 24-hour notice.
The complimentary KidsOnly club, supervised by expert counsellors, offers daily age-appropriate activities focused on learning, local culture, nature, sports, and arts and crafts. Facilities include a dedicated kids’ pool, outdoor playground, private dining area, and in summer, children can join gardening sessions at the resort’s herb garden.
For older children, activities include treasure hunts, table tennis tournaments, five-a-side football, snorkelling trips, barbecues and bonfires, and karaoke, with kickboxing classes and swimming lessons also available.
The Guerlain Spa is a cornerstone of the resort’s identity. Spanning over 1,000 sqm and set within lush tropical gardens, it provides a serene atmosphere from the moment you enter.
Guerlain’s signature experiences, designed exclusively for the resort, draw inspiration from the island’s tropical surroundings. In partnership with the award-winning ESPA brand, the spa offers tailored holistic treatments, ranging from relaxation therapies to signature wellness programs that incorporate local techniques. The resort has also teamed up with Biologique Recherche – its first partnership in Mauritius – to provide personalised facial treatments.
The spa features 13 treatment rooms, some with private gardens and outdoor showers. Facilities include a steam room, sauna, and an adult-only infinity lap pool.
The spa pool is open daily from 8AM to 6PM, the sauna and steam room from 8.30AM to 8PM, and spa treatments are available from 10AM to 8PM.
The Boathouse offers a range of complimentary water sports, including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, glass-bottom boat rides, Hobie cat sailing, windsurfing, pedalo, and waterskiing.
Complimentary daily snorkelling trips are offered at 11AM, 2PM, and 3.30PM. For certified divers, the on-site PADI-accredited Indigo Divers Centre runs excursions to some of Mauritius’s most renowned dive sites.
Water sports may be suspended, at short notice, due to weather or sea conditions. The Host keeps guests updated via WhatsApp.
Boathouse activities are available daily from 9AM to 5PM, with extended hours until 6PM during the warmer season (November to April).
A complimentary sundowner cocktail is offered to suite guests, though unfortunately this was not mentioned to us.
The sunsets at Le Saint Géran are stunning. I recommend heading to La Pointe, where the restaurant’s location at the tip of the peninsula provides unobstructed ocean views. It’s a stunning and memorable way to end the day!
The resort also features luxury shopping, combining international designer brands with local artisanal products. Boutiques include NEO Boutique, Brunello Cucinelli, and Villa NEO.
Le Carré speakeasy bar/library, offers a comfortable waiting area for guests with late flights, equipped with computers, a piano, television, and lounge seating.
We booked our airport transfer directly with our Host, and the service was excellent. The chauffeur drove a comfortable BMW X7 and provided bottled water, apple juice, dried fruit, and a chilled hand towel for the journey. From departure at the hotel to arrival at the airport, the entire process was smooth and highly efficient, making the transfer completely stress-free.
The resort also has an on-site helipad for those preferring a quicker or more private arrival or departure.
During our visit, the resort was operating at 50% occupancy due to a transitional period between two events. While this low capacity ensured absolute tranquillity and personalised service, for a property of this size, many areas felt noticeably serene and quiet, which may have slightly detracted from the typical lively atmosphere.
One&Only Le Saint Géran offers a high standard of service, comfort, and design. The resort is carefully crafted to create a sense of space and calm – and it succeeds beautifully. Combining modern luxury with attention to detail, it features well-appointed suites, varied dining options, and excellent leisure and wellness facilities.
A particular highlight for us was the highly attentive Hosts, who acted as our personal point of contact throughout the stay. Their responsiveness and initiative made a real difference, ensuring that every request we had was handled quickly and professionally.
While a few service lapses and the subdued atmosphere during low occupancy were noticeable, overall quality remained impressive. The property is exceptionally well maintained, the staff are attentive, and the setting is among the best in Mauritius.
Le Saint Géran continues to justify its reputation as one of the island’s top luxury resorts – ideal for travellers seeking comfort, privacy, and reliable five-star hospitality.
