Interview: Alessandro Mansi, Director of Sales at Hotel Miramalfi

Alessandro Mansi is the Director of Sales at Hotel Miramalfi, a family-owned luxury hotel in Amalfi and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

He studied Economics and Business at the University of Siena before completing a Master’s degree in Hospitality Management at the Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland. He began his international career in London and later gained further experience in Dubai with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

Today, Alessandro combines a global hospitality perspective with deep roots in Amalfi, bringing together international standards of luxury with a distinctly personal, experience-led approach.

In this interview, he reflects on the evolution of Hotel Miramalfi – from its founding in 1956 to its recent renovation and growing recognition – offering insight into a property where a strong sense of place and enduring family values shape the guest experience.

If you were to describe Hotel Miramalfi in three words, what would they be – and why?

Timeless because Miramalfi has been welcoming guests since 1956 and continues to preserve its authentic soul and charm.

Contemporary because the recent renovation introduced a refined modern vision while respecting the hotel’s heritage.

Discreet because we believe true luxury is never excessive – it is about elegance, intimacy, privacy, and genuine hospitality.

What do you believe sets Miramalfi apart from other luxury hotels along the Amalfi Coast?
I believe what truly distinguishes Miramalfi is its unique identity and design. The hotel has a strong architectural personality inspired by Mediterranean and Art Deco influences, which creates an atmosphere that feels elegant yet relaxed, sophisticated yet authentic.

Many guests tell us they immediately feel at home here, while still experiencing the beauty and exclusivity expected from a luxury property on the Amalfi Coast.

One of the things that drew me to Miramalfi was the lovely story behind its origin. Can you tell me a bit about the hotel’s history?
The story of Miramalfi is deeply connected to my family. My great-grandfather, Francesco Mansi, moved to Mexico in the early 1900s, where he built a small fortune through hard work and determination. When he returned to Amalfi, his dream was initially to build a home for the family. However, he recognised the incredible tourism potential of Amalfi and decided instead to create a hotel.

Miramalfi officially opened in 1956, and this year we are proudly celebrating our 70th anniversary. Starting in 2022, the hotel underwent a complete renovation and transformation under the vision of our General Manager, Ferida Fava. This important project allowed us to join Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and last October we were honoured to receive the Michelin Key distinction.

Miramalfi has such a strong sense of character and heritage. How has the hotel evolved over the years while still maintaining its original spirit?
Throughout every renovation and transformation, we have always tried to respect the surrounding landscape and environment. The goal was never to change the soul of the property, but rather to enhance it. Mediterranean design, natural light, handcrafted details, local materials, and the connection with the sea remain central elements of the hotel’s identity.

Is there a special detail or story about the property that many guests might not know about?
Our signature restaurant, Donna Emma, is named after my grandmother, one of the founders of the property. Mario’s lobby bar is dedicated to my grandfather. My father was also born here in the hotel, just a few months before its opening in 1956. This year is therefore very special as we celebrate both the hotel’s 70th anniversary and my father’s 70th birthday.

If you could experience one perfect day as a guest at Miramalfi, how would you spend it?

A perfect day would begin with breakfast at Donna Emma, with a beautiful sea view, followed by a private boat experience along the Amalfi Coast. In the afternoon, I would relax at our beach club and pool, and finish with dinner at Azur Lounge Bar overlooking the sea at sunset.

How do you integrate local Amalfi Coast culture into the guest experience?
Through our gastronomy, which respects local traditions and seasonal ingredients, our welcome lemon-based drink, and our private boat experiences that allow guests to discover the coastline from the sea – the most authentic perspective.

When you’re off duty, what’s your favourite thing to do or place to visit on the Amalfi Coast?
One of my favourite spots is La Praia beach in Praiano – more local, relaxed, and authentic, with lovely small restaurants and bars.

Looking ahead, what’s the vision for the future of Miramalfi while preserving the legacy that guests already love?
Our vision is to continue evolving while staying true to our roots. We aim to refine the guest experience further while preserving our identity as a family-owned hotel where authenticity, emotional connection, and personalised service remain at the core of everything we do.

When guests check out, what feeling or memory do you hope stays with them long after they’ve left?
I hope guests remember the people – the warmth of our team, the sincerity of our hospitality, and the feeling of being truly welcomed as part of the Miramalfi family.
